Update Galaxy S3 I9300 to Android 4.3 via Slimbean 4.3 Beta 3 Official Build [How to] (Updated 28th August, 2013)

Following the release of the latest iteration of Jelly Bean software, Android 4.3, which Google recently rolled out for its Nexus devices, the Android developers community has commenced the release of custom builds based on the new Jelly Bean version.
The official builds for Slim Bean featuring Android 4.3 are now available for the third Galaxy S smartphone bearing model number GT-I9300, which is currently running on Android 4.1.2 official version.
Android 4.3
SlimBean Official ROM based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is available for the Galaxy S3.

Users are also advised to ensure that their handsets meet the following requirements before installing the custom build.
1) Install USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy S3 to transfer files between the Android device and the computer.
2) Enable USB Debugging Mode on the phone to connect it with the computer and use Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and then check the USB Debugging Mode.]
3) As the tutorial might wipe out all data of the phone, create a backup. If the device is having any custom recoveries such as ClockworkMod/TWRP already installed, then backup data using the recovery.
4) The Galaxy S3 should have above 80% battery charge.
5) The phone should be rooted and have ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery installed.
6) The Slimbean official builds work only with Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. As flashing these on any incorrect variant is likely to brick the device, verify the model number of the Galaxy device by navigating to Settings>> About phone>> Model number
7) After flashing the ROM if the device gets stuck on Booting animation or experiences boot loop, then perform wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache five more times before rebooting the device.
8) Users are advised to give five to 10 minutes to the ROM after the device boots up the first time to settle everything for a better using experience.

Steps to install Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 with SlimBean official build

Step-1: Download Slimbean v4.3 ROM for Samsung Galaxy S3 to the computer [Alternative link].
Step-2: Download Google Apps package [Alternative link].
Step-3: Connect and mount the Galaxy S3 USB memory on the computer using USB cable. Then copy the downloaded zip files to the SD card of the phone. Ensure that the files are in the SD card root not in any folder. Also, do not extract any file.
Step-4: Unplug the USB cable from the phone and switch it off.
Step-5: Boot the phone into Recovery Mode by turning on the phone while pressing and holding Volume UpHome and Power buttons together. Then release all three buttons.
Note: In recovery mode, use the Volume keys to navigate between the options and Power button to select the desired option.
Step-6: In recovery mode, perform a Nandroid backup of the existing ROM that can be restored later if the new ROM does not work or in case users wish to go back to the previous ROM. To perform Nandroid backup, select Backup and Restore, and then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to the main recovery menu once the backup is completed.
Step-7: Perform data wiping task to eliminate clash between the new ROM and the previous ROM. Select wipe data/factory reset and then select Yes on the next screen to confirm the action. Wait for some time until the wiping process is done and return to the CWM recovery menu. Now perform a cache wipe by selecting wipe cache partition.
This is optional but it is recommended that you perform a wipe of dalvik cache to avoid boot loops and any other error. From CWM recovery, go to advanced option and then select wipe dalvik cache.
Step-8: Return to the main recovery menu and select install zip from sdcard and then select choose zip from sdcard. Navigate to the Slimbean ROM zip earlier copied to the SD card of the phone. Press the Power button to select it and confirm installation on the next screen. The ROM installation should now begin.
Step-9: Once the ROM is installed, repeat the above step but now choose Google Apps to install same.
Step-10: When the installation process is completed, go to +++++Go Back +++++ and reboot the phone by selecting reboot system now from the recovery menu. The device will reboot now and boot up into the customised Slimbean custom firmware. The first boot will take about five minutes.
Note: To go back to the previous ROM, boot the phone into recovery, select Backup and Restore then restore the ROM by selecting it from the list.
Galaxy S3 should now be updated with Slimbean Android 4.3 Jelly Bean custom ROM. To verify the new software version running on the device head over to Settings>> About phone.
Do comment if you have any questions or confusions regarding the update process. Enjoy android 4.3 jelly bean on your SIII.

Since this update is not the one which is officially released by Samsung Electronics, for applying his update you will have to root your Galaxy S PLUS I9001 device (Go to this link to root your Samsung Galaxy S Plus). Unfortunately, Samsung won’t be coming up with any future updates like ICS or Jellybean for SGS PLUS I9001 officially. The best part is that from now we will be constantly coming up with the custom ROM firmwares which are here to further increase the user experience.

Disclaimer: We should not be held responsible or liable for any damage happened to your device due to not following the instructions. It is very unlikely that there will be any damage to your device if you follow all the instructions.

With the help of below mentioned steps back up all the data so that if at all the data gets corrupted /lost, the same can be restored with the help of below mentioned steps. Don’t use KIES to back up the data or else there is a risk of device getting not detecting in KIES with which you will not be able to restore the backup taken. Move all the backed up files in your computer.

SMS – Download "SMS Backup & Restore app" from play store,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log -  Download "Call Log and Restore" app from play store,
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

Enable USB Debugging Mode in your Samsung Galaxy S PLUS I9001 from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. Disable / uninstall all the security suites installed in your device as these interrupt the process of firmware update process.

This custom ROM has been built directly from the AOSP source which means you get to enjoy the latest Android 4.2.2 on your Samsung Vibrant. This is not an official release by Google, but just a custom ROM which would require a custom recovery like ClockworkMod in order to flash the ROM zip file on your phone. You will be able to update Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 to Slim Bean Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Version 8 custom firmware with our tutorial.
In this tutorial, we will tell you how to install Slim Bean Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 with complete steps using CWM recovery. We also have several tips on how to backup your phone data and also some more tips that you have to keep in mind before proceeding to the tutorial on the next page. You will have to wipe your previous personal data and apps as usual when installing this custom ROM, like always. Let’s begin with the tutorial below.
Disclaimer: All the custom ROMs and firmwares, official software updates, tools, mods or anything mentioned in the tutorial belong to their respective owners/developers. We or the developers are not to be held responsible if you damage or brick your device. We don’t have you on gun point to try out this tutorial ;-)

    T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant USB Drivers

You will need to connect your Android phone with the computer. For that, please make sure you have installed the USB drivers for T-Mobile Galaxy Ace properly. If not, you can download the latest official drivers from our Android USB Drivers section here:

    Backup and Other Important Tips

Done with the USB drivers? Perfect. The tutorial is on the next page, but first, please take a look at the following tips and important points you need to take care of. These are important, as we don’t want anyone losing their personal data or apps:
Always backup your important data that you might need after you install a new custom ROM, an official software update or anything else. Make a backup for just in case, you never know when anything might go wrong. See below for some tips on how to backup data:
T-Mobile users can also back up data using T-Mobile KIES. If you backup data manually, you get more options what to choose from and it is very easy to move data across Android devices from different manufacturers, i.e moving T-Mobile Galaxy Note backup data to HTC One X.
If you already have a custom recovery (ClockworkMod, TWRP etc.) installed on your phone, we strongly recommend a backup using that as it creates a complete image of your existing phone set up.
A few more optional tips that you should remember:
    1. Having problems connecting your Android phone to the computer? You need to enable USB debugging mode. See here: How to Enable USB Debugging — for Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean.
    2. Make sure your Android device is charged up to 80-85% battery level. This might help you: How to Check Battery Percentage. Why? Because, if your phone goes off suddenly while installing a custom ROM, flashing an official firmware update or installing mods etc. — your phone might get bricked or go dead permanently. No one wants that, right?
    4. We recommend NOT to try our guides if your phone is locked to a carrier, unless we have specified the carrier name or device model.

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to install Slim Bean Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean ROM on Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959. If you are used to installing custom ROMs on your Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959, then this should not be any different for you.
However, for beginners, you need to root your T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant and install a custom recovery. Please Google that up if you are unsure and read the entire tutorial once before actually performing it.
    To Remember:
    • This tutorial is only for installing Slim Bean Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean custom ROM on T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959. Please do not try on any other Samsung Vibrant variants.
    • Your phone should have ClockworkMod recovery installed from before.

    • Perform a Dalvik Cache wipe before proceeding from the recovery mode.
    • T-Mobile KIES will NOT detect your phone after installing Slim Bean Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean because it is a custom ROM.

    • If the device is stuck at booting or is experiencing boot loop issues, perform Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache a few more times before rebooting.
    • Allow newly installed ROM to stabilise for five minutes before you start working on it.
    • If you encounter a Status 7 error message while flashing the firmware, then it could be due to an incompatible device or a necessary kernel may be missing (for instance, a Jelly Bean Kernel must be installed before installing any Jelly Bean ROM).
